About Gordy
Gordy Hulten has served as Champaign County Clerk since 2011, and is now a candidate for the new office of Champaign County Executive. As County Executive, Gordy will lead County government to improve services and responsiveness for all Champaign County residents, while increasing efficiencies and aggressively seeking to reduce costs.
As Champaign County Clerk, Gordy Hulten has worked diligently to make voting more accessible while using new technology and innovations to save Champaign County taxpayers thousands of dollars. He has led voter registration efforts that have resulted in a record number of registered voters in the County, and has earned bipartisan praise for the implementation of eight new early voting locations throughout the County to allow residents to vote early with greater ease. Gordy’s efforts have led to record voter turnout and record voter participation in early voting and voting by mail.
Gordy has been a responsible and efficient steward of taxpayer dollars. Under his leadership, his office designed and implemented electronic pollbooks at no cost to local taxpayers to make the Election Day experience more accurate and efficient for voters. These pollbooks meant that new state mandates such as Election Day Registration have been easier and cheaper for Champaign County to implement. He has also utilized technology and cost-cutting measures to trim thousands of dollars from his annual office budget. Hulten also led a coordinated process for the decennial 2011 redistricting process throughout the County, saving numerous agencies across the county thousands of dollars.
As a bipartisan leader in the community, Gordy Hulten has extensive experience working with the Champaign County Board to earn support for numerous legislative priorities. This experience will be critical while serving as County Executive, leading many County Departments and collaborating with the County Board to implement policy priorities and aggressively pursue financial responsibility for County Government.
Gordy is an active member of the Champaign-Urbana community. He is a member of the Champaign Rotary Club and serves on the Urbana-Champaign Big Broadband Not-for-Profit Board of Directors, seeking to expand our communities’ access to job-creating high-speed fiber internet. He serves as Cubmaster of Pack 98 Cub Scouts, based at Barkstall Elementary, and volunteers with Illinois Futbol Club. He previously served as a member of the Champaign County Forest Preserve District Foundation Board and Champaign County Chamber of Commerce Government Council. He also served his country as a member of the United States Army Reserve.
Gordy is a 2002 graduate of the University of Illinois, and lives in Champaign with his wife, Pam, and their children, Will and Cate.
